Prohibition in the 1920's was a time where the United States government thought the use of alcohol was the reason behind all wrong doings. While it could have a hand in it, it is not necessarily a main reason. Many gangs and old bars sold beer illegally and smuggled making it. The state governments pretended not to know about it. The smugglers would have speakeasies and they would sell beer. Prohibition, in the end, just made the alcohol consumption much greater in stead of lowering it.
